The how...

During a session, you step into a private room which includes a shower and the float tank. The 4ft x 8ft x 6ft tank contains approximately 250 gallons of water. In that water, nearly 1000lb of pharmaceutical grade Epsom salts are dissolved. This concentration creates an environment where the water is denser than the human body and effortless floating results no matter the body type.

The water is kept at a comfortable 93-95 degrees, which is the surface skin temperature. This keeps the guest warm and reduces the sensation of the water on the skin. Soon the mind loses track of where the water ends and the skin begins.

The tank has customizable internal lighting. It can be turned on and off from inside the tank, depending on the comfort of the guest. By keeping the lights off, the mind can drift and relax to another level.

The tank is insulated not only to keep the temperature steady but also to reduce the noise pollution of the world around. We also provide earplugs to help reduce noise as well as keep water out of the ears. The tank has relaxing music available. The guest can even plug in their own device for a customized playlist. There are volume controls that can be adjusted from within the tank. It will fade in and out to indicate the start and finish of the session.

Without the need to consciously or subconsciously regulate the body, keep yourself vertical, react to stimuli, navigate traffic, answer a text, or have a conversation, resources which would otherwise be devoted to such things are free for use in problem solving, creative exploration, learning, or simply meditation, rest, and relaxation.

Emerging from a float can leave one feeling like senses are sharpened, the mind is refreshed, and the world may appear more vibrant.  The effects of floating last for hours to days afterwards, and have the potential to last much longer.

The why...

Floating is a way to pause our hectic lives, if just for a moment to provide deeper mental and physical relaxation. The environment a float tank creates is very unique experience.  During a session, a guest is effortlessly floating in water due to the high concentration of Epsom salt. The water is skin temperature and the guest has the choice of light or sound levels (though we recommend dark and quiet). This environment frees up the mind for people to relax. It reduces chronic pain and stress while accessing a center of awareness or a different level of consciousness. People who float have the chance to reflect on their lives or just exist. With the ever increasing amount of contact we have via phones, internet, and social media, this offers an opportunity in every day life to just unplug for a moment.  By giving yourself a break from the endless sensory input of our lives, your mind has a chance to recharge and face the world head on.

Restricted Environmental Stimuli Therapy

This is the principal behind floating. It is the reduction of stimulation whether that be light, sound, sensation, or all three in order to facilitate the mind and body to relax. Our body and brain are constantly responding to stimuli and we don't even know it. Whether it is the subtle changes in barometric pressure, the breeze on our skin, or the various sounds around, our mind is always adjusting. By reducing the stimulation the brain can finally calm and reach a true state of relaxation.

The who...

Floating is great for almost anyone! Though there are a couple of circumstances where we wouldn't recommend it.

Who CAN float after speaking with their doctor?

  • If you are pregnant
  • If you are diabetic
    • The magnesium from the Epsom salts can potentially effect sugar levels and dry out the skin
  • If you have uncontrolled blood pressure issues
  • If you have a heart condition
  • If you have been diagnosed with mental illness
  • If you have severe skin conditions (psoriasis, eczema)
    • Open and cracked skin can burn!
  • If you are receiving treatment for cancer
    • As long as you are not taking medications that excrete through the skin

Who CANNOT float?

  • If you have received keratin treatments for your hair
    • Saltwater is not recommended including float tanks
  • If you have any large open wounds including fresh tattoos
    • It would not be comfortable anyway and burn like crazy
  • If your hair dye is fresh
    • You can still float but give it a week or two for the dye to settle
  • Intoxicated, high, or altered guests will not be permitted
  • If you are prone to seizures, under control with medication or not
  • If you have been diagnosed with schizophrenia
  • If you have kidney problems
  • If you have a contagious or infectious skin condition
  • Diarrhea or gastroenteritis
    • Anyone with these symptoms should not float whilst symptoms persist and up to 14 days after
If a doctor's note is requested, here is our downloadable FORM. Have your doctor fill it out and bring it to your appointment. Other forms and notes will not be accepted.

I've made my appointment...now what?

Congratulations on taking steps towards relaxation! So you have your appointment...now what? What do you do? What do you bring? Here are some tips and suggestions to make sure you have the best experience.

  • We will provide you with everything you need: including a towel, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, ear plugs, lotion, Q-tips, a comb, and deodorant. We even have a hair dryer upon request.
  • We recommend floating in the nude. The suit detracts from the experience and can be a distraction. You will have an entirely private room with a shower…so if you choose to wear a bathing suit, nobody will know!
  • Have a small meal an hour or two before your appointment. Nothing too heavy but don't go hungry! The tank is quiet and you can become overly aware of every noise your stomach makes.

  • Avoid caffeine for at least a few hours before your float
  • Don’t shave or wax for at least 24 hours beforehand. (However, shaving your face is usually not a problem.) It can cause irritation because of the amount of salt in the water.
  • If you wear contacts, you may want to remove them before your float. If so, we provide lense solution but recommend bringing anything else you might need.
  • Parking is available for you in our small parking lot. Please feel free to park in the lot directly in front of our door. If there are no spots available you may park down the hill slightly.
If you have scheduled a massage AND a float, we also provide a robe and slippers for the room transition and a tote in which to place your belongings as well as offer time in our relaxation room in-between services.
